With all the cooking, shopping, and scheduled activities, the holiday season can get pretty hectic. But that doesn’t mean you should skip quality time together with your kids. In fact, the holiday season is the perfect time to make some lasting memories with your family! With the kids on holiday break and the spirit of the season floating through the air, Christmastime is a great time to enjoy the company of your family. And with these 10 easy ways to spend quality time together as a family during the holidays, you’ll be having a blast with your kids in no time!

Make a Gingerbread House

Gingerbread houses are a classic Christmas pastime – and for good reason! They’re so much fun to make! Whether you purchase a premade kit or create your own gingerbread house pieces from scratch, your kids will have a blast decorating their own holiday houses (and eating the candy while they work).

Make a Christmas Craft

Crafting is one of my family’s favorite ways to spend time together. It gives your kids a chance to flex their creative muscles and work on improving their fine motor skills at the same time. And on top of creating memories together, you’ll end up with some fun keepsakes when your kids are finished crafting. Looking for a cute craft idea? These popsicle stick Santa hats are perfect for kids of any age!

Check Out Holiday Lights

Whether your town has an amazing light display set up or you just drive around your neighborhood, checking out the twinkling holiday lights is another easy way to enjoy quality time with your family. Make the trip memorable by bringing along some hot chocolate and Christmas cookies for your family to enjoy as you drive around enjoying the outdoor holiday decorations.

Play in the Snow

It can be easy to coop up your family indoors during the holiday season, especially when it’s freezing outside, but heading outdoors for some family fun is great for your family’s health. This holiday season, take a break from your busy schedule, bundle up the kids, and head outside for some fresh air and sunshine. From building a snowman to having a snowball fight, there are tons of great ways to have fun in the snow!

Watch a Christmas Movie

Sometimes, it’s more fun to stay inside – especially when it’s freezing outdoors! If your family would rather snuggle up under a blanket together, watching a Christmas movie is a great way to spend a couple of hours together as a family during the holidays. And with so may great family-friendly holiday movies to choose from, your family can enjoy this activity on multiple occasions!

Bake Cookies for Santa

I love holiday baking! It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday season. And letting your kids help is a fun way to teach them a little bit about cooking and spend time together, too. While any cookie recipe is a great excuse to spend time together, cookies that require decorating (like gingerbread men or sugar cookies) are a great choice when baking with kids. Older kids are great at helping make the cookie dough and cut out the cookie shapes, while younger kids would have more fun decorating the cookies with icing, sprinkles and candy.

Eat Dinner Together

With so many holiday commitments, it can be hard to stick to a routine. But the simple act of sitting down to dinner together each evening is the perfect way to calm the holiday chaos and enjoy each other’s company.

Make Ornaments

Decorating my home for the holidays is my favorite part of Christmas. And one of my favorite ways to decorate is with DIY holiday decorations and ornaments. Making ornaments together as a family is a win-win! You get to spend quality time with your kids and get a ton of new ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree. If you’re looking for a cute holiday ornament kids of any age can help make, you’ll love these upcycled mason jar lid wreath ornaments!

Have a Game Night

Not all your activities have to be centered around Christmas during the holiday season! In fact, it’s good to take a break from the holiday on occasion. What better way to forget about the stresses of the holidays than to play a fun board game with your family? Simply set out a few snacks, grab a kid-friendly board game, and let the competition begin!

Host a Party

If you’d love to enjoy quality time with your extended family this holiday season, why not host a party? There are so many fun ways to celebrate during the Christmas season, from cookie exchanges to dinner parties. Get tons of inspiration for your next family-friendly holiday party here.
